By + a time = not lather than = selambat-lambatnya.

By Monday = selambat-lambatnya senin.

By 5 o’clock = selambat-lambatnya jam 5.

(Saya mengirim surat hari ini, jadi mereka harus menerimanya pada hari senin)

Artinya kurang lebih :

on or before monday, on monday at the latest

(pada atau sebelum senin, paling lambat senin)

Dalam Preposition OF Time, “by” berarti sebelum waktu tertentu (specific time)

“by” menunjukkan batas waktu untuk sesuatu terjadi. Suatu peristiwa harus terjadi sebelum waktu tertentu (specific time) tercapai.

By Monday artinya batas waktu tercapainya adalah hari SENIN atau Paling lambat hari senin.

By July artinya batasan waktu terjadi adalah ada bulan july.

 

Please send me the report by Friday.

(I must receive it before Friday. The deadline is Friday)

>> saya harus menerima laporan sebelum Jumat. Batas waktunya adalah Jumat.

 

Jane would like to lose 3 kg by December.

(She would like to lose 3kg before December.)

>> Si jane ingin menurunkan berat badan 3 kilo sebelum December. Sebelum december atau december berat badan harus turun 3 kg)

 

We often use “by” for projects with deadlines.
